Love Thy Neighbor Group to Hold Informational Meeting Today

Daniel Prince

Community ministry is being launched by Grace United Methodist Church

Grace United Methodist Church is launching a community ministry they are calling the Love Thy Neighbor Initiative. The group has identified two community needs they want to address. The first is the number of children who have fallen behind in their reading and math skills. The group wants to help with tutoring and homework assistance, noting also that many children can benefit from a loving relationship with a mentor. The Union Housing Authority is partnering with the effort and will do what they can to support the group’s efforts. The second community need they want to address is opioid abuse and other addictions, and the dangers of fentanyl. The group is partnering with the Union County Sheriff’s Office and C-4 Ministries to learn more about the direct and indirect results of drug use and mental health issues in our neighborhoods, including break-ins, homelessness, and ultimately lives lost too young. They are looking to host a presentation from the state on the opioid crisis in Union County and how the group can help.

Love Thy Neighbor will hold an informational meeting and brainstorming session today at 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary at Grace United Methodist Church to discuss these issues and steps they can take to help address them. They are encouraging anyone who has an interest in addressing these issues and wants to get involved to come to the meeting, whether individuals or organizations.
