Man Arrested for Obtaining Property Under False Pretense

Man charged woman rent and deposit for a mobile home he didn't own

A Union man was arrested on a charge of obtaining property under false pretenses in an incident that occurred in early December. A woman reported she paid $800 to 41-year-old Eddie Brannon, Jr., for rent and deposit for a mobile home on East Lee Street. She said Brannon told her he had to do some work inside the mobile home before she could move in. He told her the work would be done in a timely manner, but the woman stated the work was never done. She said she really needed a place to stay, and she said she gave Brannon additional time to get the work done. She said he eventually told her the mobile home would not be ready, because he didn’t have the money to fix it. She asked for her money back, but he told her he didn’t have it. She said she spoke to Brannon on several occasions about the money, but he refused to pay it back, stating he didn’t have it. After checking into the property, she discovered Brannon does not even own the property. She reported all this to the Union Public Safety Department last Wednesday, and Brannon was arrested on Monday.
