Man Charged with Ill Treatment of Animals

Daniel Prince

Caller reported man had dog tied to rear bumper of his vehicle

A 22-year-old Union County man was arrested on March 10 on an ill treatment of animals charge. Deputy Kevin Felts was on patrol when he received a call to respond to the Jonesville Mini Mart on Furman Fendley Highway for a suspicious person. The caller stated a male driver of a vehicle had a dog tied to the rear bumper of a Ford Escape. The caller gave Felts the tag number. The vehicle license came back to 22-year-old Bobby Eugene Greene, Jr. The caller stated that Greene quickly picked the dog up off the ground with it barely breathing and put it inside the vehicle. He then got into the vehicle headed toward Spartanburg before turning around at the former Belk plant on Hwy. 176 and headed back toward Union. Felts was unable to find the vehicle. He then went to the Mini Mart to review video footage, but the video did not show the vehicle in question nor the animal. Deputies continued to investigate the case and arrested Greene and charged him with ill treatment of animals. Greene was released on bond.
