Stevens accused of attempted murder in shooting of 14-year-old
A Union man jailed for attempted murder in the shooting of a 14-year-old victim last week faces additional charges, according to the Union Public Safety Department. 51-year-old DeWayne Darnell Stevens, Sr., is charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon, possession of marijuana, 2nd or subsequent offense, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, and possession with intent to distribute within proximity of a school. Stevens is accused of shooting the 14-year-old on Lipsey Street last Tuesday. Stevens had previously been convicted of a violent crime and was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition. While at his home on Keenan Avenue, Stevens was found with marijuana and a large amount of crack cocaine. His address is within half a mile of the USC Union campus. Bond on the new charges totals $11,000, but bond was denied on his previous charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Stevens is still in the Union County Detention Center.
