Man suffered a severe cut to his head
A Union man was flown to Spartanburg Medical Center due to injuries he received in a robbery involving a 15-year-old. PFC Justin Brannon was dispatched to a parking lot near the intersection of Main Street and North Gadberry Street. A 44-year-old man was lying on the ground with a severe laceration to the left side of the head. A witness stated he was walking across the parking lot behind Keenan’s Barber Shop and saw a white male wearing brown pants, a black shirt, and a mask pick up a black male and slam him to the ground. He said he saw the white male take something from the other man’s pocket. Brannon talked to the victim’s caretaker, who stated she had given him $360 in cash earlier. The victim was transported by EMS to the fairgrounds, where he would be flown to Spartanburg for treatment for his injuries.
County and city officers got out with two juveniles, one of which the witness identified by photo as the one involved in the altercation. Another witness came forward and said she saw a juvenile that lives at the apartment and the juvenile’s friend with the victim earlier that day. Brannon read the juvenile his rights, and he stated he did not want to talk to Brannon. Cpl. Harris searched both juveniles and didn’t find anything on them. Brannon spoke with his supervisor about retrieving video footage, but he was told that investigators were busy on other cases right then and to detain the juvenile and take him to Public Safety Headquarters. The juvenile will be charged with strong arm robbery and 1st-degree assault and battery.
