Daniel Prince

McNeace was arrested Monday on drug charges, resisting arrest

A Union man wanted on active warrants was stopped by the Union County Sheriff’s Office last Saturday evening. Sgt. Michael Merriett informed 56-year-old Joseph Wayne McNeace of the active warrants and attempted to place him in handcuffs. McNeace took off running. Merriett chased him but lost him in the thick brush behind the residence. During the foot pursuit, Merriett advised McNeace he was under arrest and needed to stop. Merriett unholstered his tazer during the foot pursuit but did not use it. K-9 Deputy Caldwell was called to the scene to track McNeace. A clear baggie was found on the ground away from the incident. It contained a white crystal-like substance in it. It was seized and placed into evidence to be destroyed. Two cell phones were found in the vehicle during a search. They were both placed into evidence. McNeace was arrested on Monday and charged with four counts of possession with intent to distribute within proximity of a park, playground, or school, two counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine base, one count of trafficking cocaine base, and resisting arrest. Bond on all charges totaled $33,000.
