Dot Day is centered around Peter H. Reynolds's book, "The Dot"
Monarch Elementary School celebrated Fire Prevention Week in mid-October with several special activities. They honored local firefighters on October 11th with coffee and doughnuts served by the Student Council. Four fire trucks and an ambulance came to the campus, and the students were able to tour them and learn about fire safety from Monarch Fire Department Chief Dr. John Flood and the other firefighters. Chase and Marshall, characters from Paw Patrol, stopped by, as well. Some classes made firefighter helmets to wear, while some other classes made fire truck snacks to enjoy.
The school celebrated a less-well-known day back in September when it observed International Dot Day. The day is centered around a book by Peter H. Reynolds called The Dot, which the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.
Monarch celebrated this literacy-based event by encouraging everyone to dress for the occasion by wearing dots to school. Every class read The Dot and discussed the story. Students enjoyed The Dot Song and The Dot Drawing. A schoolwide writing contest was also held. The school winners were: (5K) Christian Lindsay; (1st grade) Jacob Wells; (2nd grade) Brantli Wilson; (3rd grade) Ally Gregory; (4th grade) Taylor Robinson; (5th grade) Gianna Fowler.
