Updates on Sims Middle School, COVID numbers, and facilities expected
The Union County Board of School Trustees will meet for their regular September meeting tonight at 6:30 in Room 600 of the Union County Career and Technology Center. The meeting will begin with a special recognition, as well as student recognition. After that, Dr. Jane Wilkes and Board Chair Gene Lipsey will give highlights from the SC School Law Conference. Superintendent Joey Haney will then give his updates, with motions coming from the board if needed.
The board will discuss the selection of a voting delegate at the Legislative Advocacy Conference scheduled for December 4th. Board member Manning Jeter has indicated he is interested. Nurse Coordinator Kelly Walton will provide an update on COVID numbers and procedures. Maintenance Director Mark Haney will provide a facilities update to the board. Director of Instruction Dr. Lacresha Byrd will present enrollment numbers so far in the school year. Dr. LaTunya Means will update the board on things that are happening at Sims Middle School. Finance Director Bryan Gresham will provide the monthly budget report. He will also present a policy for adoption regarding cash in school buildings, with a recommendation that the board waive first reading and give final approval to the policy.
An executive session is planned to discuss 4 personnel and 3 contractual matters. Back in open session, Personnel Director Jeff Stribble will present the personnel report.
