Car strikes house in the aftermath of one shooting
Monday night, PFC Jamison Taylor was responding to a report of shots fired in the Mill Hill area of the City of Union. Taylor approached from behind a residence on Erwin Avenue and noticed that a vehicle had struck a residence. Taylor notified dispatch of the incident. He saw that the driver’s side window was busted out, and there was a bullet hole in the trunk. The vehicle was running but no one was inside. Cpl. Voiselle and PFC Willingham arrived at the residence. Someone came out of the residence and stated that he and a friend had gone to get food and were pulling up to his residence when someone started shooting at them. The man said he ran into the house and his friend ran off somewhere else. The passenger came back to the residence after seeing the emergency response and stated he took off running when the shots were fired and after striking the house with his vehicle. Officers found shell casings in the grass off Second Avenue and collected them. The investigation into the incident is continuing.
There were several other reports Monday night of shots being fired in the city and one near Monarch. According to Union Public Safety Chief Robbie McGee, the investigation into the incidents is continuing. There were no injuries reported, and no arrests have been made. McGee said he believes the incidents were not random but targeted. He said they don’t yet know if all the incidents were committed by the same person or people. Captain Scott Coffer with the Union County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to one of the shooting calls near the Circle K in Monarch. He said deputies recovered some shell casings in the roadway. Nothing was hit, and he said there are no suspects right now. He said deputies will be stepping up patrols in the area.
