Rippy gave $1 million to the MUSC College of Pharmacy in 2021
A gift Barbara Rippy gave in 2021 came to fruition last week as the Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Pharmacy held their grand opening celebration of their new facility. Rippy gave MUSC’s College of Pharmacy $1 million in August 2021. The lecture hall inside the new facility is named the Bobby Gene ’63 and Barbara Harter Rippy Lecture Hall. Dr. Rippy enrolled in the College of Pharmacy in 1959 and earned his degree there in 1963. They owned and operated Smith’s Drug Store in downtown Union from 1969-2004. When she gave the gift, Rippy stated she wanted students for years to come to have the same opportunity to fulfill their dreams of becoming pharmacists, as well. Rippy traveled to Charleston, where she spoke at the grand opening event. On her Facebook page, she posted that she was so honored to be a part of this celebration at the MUSC School of Pharmacy. She said she was sure Bobby would be proud to know that they contributed to this great accomplishment.
WBCU News spoke with Rippy soon after she made the donation in 2021, and this is what she said:
