Supervisor says new 911 backup center is nearly complete
In Supervisor Phillip Russell’s report to Union County Council, work is nearly complete on a backup 911 center. All that needs to be done is for the IT Department to move a server, and the backup center will be operational.
The supervisor attended a recent meeting with SC DOT about planned bridge replacements in the county. Nine bridges are scheduled to be replaced, and three others are slated for repairs. The bridges on major highways—49, 72, 114, 176, and 215—will be built while keeping the traffic flowing, meaning there will be no detours put in place. Those include the bridges on Highway 49 over Fairforest Creek and Tyger River; bridges on Highway 72 over the Tyger River and Cox Creek; the bridge on Highway 114 over Sandy Run; the bridge on 176 over Padgetts Creek; and the bridge on 215 over Fairforest. All those bridges will be replaced. The bridge on Mt. Tabor Road over Fanning Road will be closed for approximately 120 days for repairs. The alternate route will be either Pea Ridge Highway or Highway 105 to Highway 9. The bridge on 49 Connector/Monarch Highway is already closed for repairs, as is the bridge on Old Buncombe Road over Padgett’s Creek. The bridges on Delta Road over Padgett’s Creek and Dutchman Creek Road off Mt. Lebanon Road over Dutchman Creek have been closed for replacement. In addition, the bridge on Sardis Road over the Tyger River is also closed. There is no word on the exact start and finish dates on these projects.
