Four Democrats vie for seat with primary set for June 13

The Democratic primary for the Union County Council District 2 race is fast approaching, with the election day scheduled for Tuesday, June 13. If a primary runoff is needed, that would be held a couple of weeks later. Four Democratic candidates are vying to be the party’s candidate for the special election, which will take place on Tuesday, August 15. The Democratic candidates are Chris Alexander, Elise Ashby, Ann Stevens-Brown, and John Glenn.

Chris Alexander recently sent WBCU News an introductory statement of his candidacy, saying he has lived in Union County all his life and he loves this county. He said he wants to make sure every person in Union County has a voice for them. Alexander is a volunteer firefighter for Whitmire and has worked for Newberry County Public Works for the past 24 years.

Ashby heads the RobinHood Group, which oversees the Union County Farm and Craft Market, Union County FoodShare, and Farmers Market Flavors Ice Cream. Ann Stevens-Brown is a member of the Carlisle Town Council and is heavily involved in the work of the Union County Democratic Party and the Union NAACP, among other organizations. John Glenn is the fire chief for the Carlisle Fire Department. WBCU News will invite the candidates on the air closer to the election date for a political forum, so you can hear from them on topics of interest. If you have a question you would like the candidates to answer, email daniel@wbcuradio.com. Early voting is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 30, and will run through Friday, June 9, from 8:30-5 at the Union County Election Commission Office on the South Duncan Bypass.
