Public Safety Investigates Several Vehicle Break-ins

Daniel Prince

Break-ins reported on Briarwood Lane, Glendale Road, Meansville Road, and West Main Street

The Union Public Safety Department noted several vehicle break-ins and attempted break-ins. One was reported Sunday morning on Briarwood Lane. The victim stated that his cousin from up the street texted him and said his son’s turkey bag was scattered all over the road in front of the victim’s house. He checked and found that his Chevy Silverado and his son’s Toyota Tacoma had items scattered throughout. The man was missing a Taurus 9mm and a checkbook from his Silverado, and a Browning A-5 shotgun was stolen from his son’s truck. The man said he had left his keys in the doorknob of his house, and the thief took the keys from the doorknob and unlocked his truck. His son’s truck was already unlocked. He also stated that his father-in-law’s vehicle, located on Glendale Road, was pried open, as well. The center console was lifted up, but there was nothing in the vehicle to steal. In addition, a neighbor on Briarwood Lane found pry marks on his truck, but the subject was not able to get the door open.

Two vehicle break-ins were reported Saturday at the apartments on Meansville Road. A woman went out Saturday morning and found her car door was partially open. She said she found several documents that had been in her glove compartment laying in her passenger seat. A jacket that was in the backseat had been moved to the front, as well. She told one of her neighbors about the incident, and the neighbor went out and found her vehicle had been gone through, as well. Her center arm rest was up, and its contents were on the passenger seat. She did not notice anything missing.

Finally, a woman on West Main Street reported Sunday afternoon that when she came home, she saw her passenger-side window was busted open. She was missing her purse from the vehicle. The purse contained her driver’s license, debit card, credit cards, birth certificate, health and dental cards, and insurance and registration information for the vehicle.
