Rental and Utility Assistance Group Scheduled to be in Union

Daniel Prince

New applications for assistance will no longer be taken after December 16

SC Stay Plus is bringing its services to Union today from 1-6 p.m. at the LW Long Community Resource Center across from the courthouse, at 213 West Main Street. They normally come on Wednesday, but they will only be available by phone that day. SC Stay Plus offers rent and utility assistance to those needing it. SC Housing created the program in May 2021 to help renters affected by the pandemic. Since that time, it has provided nearly 90,000 South Carolinians with more than $267 million in rent and utility assistance across the 39 counties the program serves, including Union County.

The assistance will be coming to an end soon, though, as the SC Housing website says that they will stop accepting new applications on December 16 at 11:59 p.m. They will continue to review all current applications as well as those submitted by the December 16 deadline to determine if they qualify for assistance for as long as funds are available. After the 16th, they will have a link on the SC Housing website to sign up to be on a waiting list. If funds remain or become available after all the prior applications are reviewed, they will notify those on the waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis to complete an application. Funding will not be guaranteed.

For information, call LaMonda at 864-514-3124, or stop by the LW Long Community Resource Center today from 1-6 p.m.
