Search finds taser, vape, and gummies
An investigation at Union County High School into a report of a student with a taser led to a drug charge for a 16-year-old female student there. On May 2, Investigator Kayla Garrett was notified by phone that the principal needed her in the main office. She met with Kevin Farmer and a female student there. Farmer advised Garrett that someone had reported to him that the female had a taser in her possession. He said he went to the gym area where the student was located due to cheerleading tryouts. He asked her if she had a taser in her possession, and she stated she did not. Farmer asked where her belongings were so he could check them for a weapon. Before checking her cheer bag, he asked her if there was anything in it she shouldn’t have, and she said no. Upon opening the bag, Farmer found a pink taser, a yellow nicotine vape, and a clear plastic container that contained red gummies. Upon opening the container, Investigator Garrett could smell a strong odor of marijuana. She asked the student what they were, and she replied that they were THC edibles. She said she did not realize she had left them in her bag because she had not brought the bag to school in a while due to the cheer season being over. Garrett took possession of the THC gummies and locked them away until she could speak to the student and her mother about the incident.
Last Friday, Investigator Garrett met with the student and her mother at Union Public Safety Headquarters. She advised the student that she was being charged with possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance because of the gummies.
