May 18, 2023

Registration required by May 24th

Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site is planning to host a Children’s Day event at Rose Hill on Saturday, May 27, from 11-2. Cost for the program is $5 per child, and registration is required by May 24. You can register online at southcarolinastateparks.com/programs-and-events. Search for Children’s Day at Rose Hill. Children’s Day activities will include a variety of games and crafts that would have been played by children in the 1800s. Games such as mancala, hopscotch, jump rope, hoops, and graces will be demonstrated and played. We will discuss the historical significance as well as giving a live demonstration of shucking corn, a major crop that would have been grown and consumed at Rose Hill during that time. Children will also learn how to make their own cornhusk dolls that they will be able to take home as a keepsake.

An adult chaperone is required to remain on site during the entire program. Please bring bottled water and wear appropriate shoes and clothing for activities and the weather. Children are encouraged to bring a light snack or lunch with them. For more information, call 427-5966 or email rosehill@scprt.com.
