Program allows seniors to get vet services for their pet at no cost to them
Pets can be important companions for senior citizens, but when the pet needs veterinary care, that can prove to be a financial hardship, especially for those on fixed incomes. The South Carolina Vets Care Foundation is collaborating with the South Carolina Department on Aging to assist seniors with getting services for their pets. The program allows seniors who are having difficulties, whether those are physical, personal, or financial, to get services for their pets at no cost to them. SCVets Care assists seniors with information about a local veterinarian to perform services for their pets, such as heartworm medicine, some types of surgery, food, flea prevention, vaccines, ear infections, upper respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, and more. Regular vaccinations and checkups are included in the program, as well. Once the work is completed, the vet bills SCVets Care, who will pay for the services.
