Daniel Prince

Schedule for MAP testing, special events also announced

Today is the final early release day for this school year. Early release days were built into the school calendar to allow for professional development opportunities throughout the year without having to miss an entire day of instruction. Elementary schools will dismiss today at 12:15 p.m. Middle schools will dismiss at 12:45 p.m., and Union County High School will dismiss at 1 p.m. Students will receive lunch at school. There will be no early release days next year, as the modified calendar does not include them.

In other school district news, districtwide math MAP testing is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, April 20. Students took the reading MAP test yesterday.

The 2nd annual District Arts Night is scheduled at Union County High School tomorrow night, Thursday, April 20, at 6 p.m. This is a chance to celebrate the arts from elementary school through high school, with performances by choruses and bands from across the district. The first District Arts Night was supposed to be held in 2020, but the onset of the pandemic ruined those plans. Instead, it was first held last May. The public is invited to attend and help celebrate the arts in the Union County School District.

The annual Battle of the Books competition is set for Friday, April 21, from 9-11 a.m. at Monarch Elementary School. Contestants from elementary and middle schools across the district have been reading and studying books all year in preparation for the event. The preliminary battles will begin at 9:15 a.m., with the middle school championship set for 10:00 and the elementary school championship scheduled at 10:30.
