Second Harvest distributed nearly 1.5 million pounds of food to agencies in Union in 2020-2021
Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina has a free food distribution scheduled this Friday, January 14, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Union County Stadium parking lot. There will be no paperwork to fill out. It will be a drive-thru distribution, so there will be no need to get out of your vehicle. Food boxes will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be one meal box and one produce box given per family.
They serve 24 counties, including 14 in North Carolina and 10 in South Carolina. Those are Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Greenwood, Lancaster, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, Union, and York. In Union County, the food bank supports 17 programs, including Salvation Army, Union County Council on Aging, and The Potter’s Storehouse. In 2020-2021, the organization distributed nearly 1.5 million pounds of food to agencies in Union County. They sponsor backpack programs at all area elementary schools and provide monthly boxes of food to homebound seniors in the county, which are delivered by the Union County Council on Aging.
