Roark began as a city firefighter and police officer on April 20, 1962

Under the pretense of a meeting with Sheriff Jeff Bailey, Chief Russell Roark was honored Wednesday for his 60 years of service in law enforcement with a drop-in reception. He said he began work as a city firefighter on April 20, 1962, and he was also sworn in as a police officer at that time. He explained why he requested a transfer from fire service:
