Carjacking led to chase into Spartanburg County

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information about a carjacking that took place Friday night at the Lil’ Cricket on South Duncan Bypass. At around 9:22 p.m. Friday, deputies were dispatched there for a report of a carjacking. The victim stated a black male opened her car door, pointed a gun at her, and told her to get out. The victim grabbed her child from the back seat, and the male drove off.

About 30 minutes after receiving the call, a patrol deputy spotted the stolen Toyota SUV and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect accelerated, and a chase ensued into Spartanburg County. Officers lost sight of the vehicle near Union Street in Spartanburg.

Sometime Saturday, the stolen vehicle was found behind a residence in Spartanburg County. Investigators are reviewing video footage and gathering information.
