11 shell casings found on South Pinckney Street near 911 office
A Union County 911 dispatcher contacted Sgt. Bryan Shaver to come to the area of 911 on South Pinckney Street early Wednesday morning due to shots being fired and it sounding like something had landed on the top of the 911 building. While Shaver was en route, dispatch received a second call reporting shots fired in the area of Rosewood Terrace. Shaver arrived in the area of South Pinckney Street and began checking the 911 building and surrounding area. PFC Nations was in the area of Rosewood Terrace around the time the call came in but did not hear any shots fired. Sgt. Shaver talked to the dispatcher, who said the noise she heard was consistent with a high-powered rifle being fired multiple times. Shaver walked the parking area at 911 and began walking South Pinckney Street. He found several AK-47 casings lying in the roadway near 411 South Pinckney Street. He had PFC Brown and PFC Nations come and assist. They marked and photographed the casings. Nine AK-47 casings were found in the northbound lane of South Pinkney Street, just off the shoulder of the road, and on the sidewalk area, along with a 9mm casing on the side of the road just before Gault Avenue. A nearby resident told Nations that he heard the shots fired and he went to the back room of the house away from the shooting. Officers did not find any damaged property in the area. As Shaver left the scene, he heard something in one of his tire treads like a rock. He stopped and found another 9mm casing stuck in the tread of one of his tires. He placed that casing into evidence, as well, making a total of 11 shell casings found. The investigation into the incident is continuing.
