Statewide Tornado Drill to be Postponed

Daniel Prince

Friday will be new date of tornado drill

Due to the potential in the state for severe weather today, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division has announced they will postpone the statewide tornado drill and hold it this Friday at 9 a.m., instead. The message will be sent out on NOAA Weather Radio around 9 a.m. and will be broadcast via the Emergency Alert System on radio and television stations statewide, including WBCU.

The forecast today in Union County calls for showers and thunderstorms today before 2 p.m., with a slight chance for showers after that. The high will be in the lower 60s and the overnight low is expected to be in the mid-40s. Friday’s weather calls for partly sunny skies with just a slight chance for an afternoon shower.

A cold snap and hard freeze is expected this weekend. High temperatures Saturday and Sunday will be in the lower 50s, and the overnight low Saturday night is expected in the lower 20s. The low overnight Sunday night will be in the lower 30s.
