Ten more units broken into
Ten more storage units were reported as being burglarized. Last Friday, Sgt. Scott Hood reported to Small’s Storage on West Hillcrest Avenue. He spoke with the victim, who stated that he received a call from the business stating that the locks on his storage unit were missing. When the man went to pay his bill, he brought some locks and observed the unit had been broken into. He said he was storing some of his mother’s and his wife’s items in the unit, and some of his mother’s items were missing. Among the items taken were a glass china cabinet, a set of china, and a 50” LG flat-screen TV. The man stated it had been nearly a year since the items were placed in the unit and anyone had checked it. Hood didn’t see any damage to the clasp on the storage door, and he could not find any locks. The total value of the missing items was estimated at $1400.
In addition, the man stated that another storage unit that held more of his mother’s items had been broken into, as well. He said three weedeaters that had been stored there were missing. They were Stihl and Eco brands and were valued at $350 each, or a total of $1050. Hood observed no damage to the clasp on the door nor any locks, just as with the other unit. He did notice two sets of footprints leaving the area of the storage building, headed south to the rear concrete pad, where the footprints stopped. Both cases have been turned over to investigations.
On Saturday, PFC Jamison Taylor and Sgt. Scott Hood responded to Small’s Storage for a report of eight other units being broken into. The owner of the business had not yet contacted any of the owners of the units, but he said he would call them and have them check the units to see if anything was missing. He stated the locks were missing from those units, as well. Once the owners have a chance to check the units, they would forward the lists to Union Public Safety.
