Student sleeping in vehicle in parking lot aroused suspicion

A 16-year-old Union County High School student faces a charge of carrying a weapon on school property after school officials found a bb gun in his vehicle.

Principal Kevin Farmer and Assistant Principal Jeff Stepp found the student sleeping in his vehicle last Thursday morning and had suspicion that contraband was in his vehicle. They called for School Resource Officer Bryan Shaver to come to the vehicle after they searched it and found a bottle of fluid vape and a handgun. Shaver asked the student about the gun, and he said it was a bb gun that he has for protection. Shaver confirmed it was a bb gun and placed it into evidence.

The student was transported to Union Public Safety Headquarters and released to his mother’s custody.
