Superintendent Talks About New Modified Schedule for Next Year

Daniel Prince

New calendar starts school earlier, includes more days out throughout school year

When he was on Union County’s Morning Show earlier this week, Superintendent Joey Haney talked about next year’s modified schedule. The school board approved the calendar last June. With it, teachers go back for staff development days from July 24-31, and the first day of school for students will be August 1. There will be an intersession period following the first nine weeks, with October 4-6 designated for remediation and enrichment for those who need it, and October 9-13 as a break for everyone. Christmas break will begin December 18 and end January 1. An intersession period for remediation and enrichment is planned for January 2-4 for those who need it, followed by a staff development day on January 5. All students return to school January 8. The spring break intersession period will follow the third nine weeks, with March 20-22 set aside for remediation and enrichment, and March 25-29 as a break for everyone. The last day of school for students will be May 31, with a final set of days for remediation and enrichment on June 4-6, following a staff development day on June 3.

Superintendent Joey Haney said a lot of research and planning went into the calendar, and he wanted to ensure parents had plenty of advance notice of the change:
