Airport, Code Enforcement, Community Development, Development Board, and Public Works Departments featured
Each month, Supervisor Phillip Russell releases a report detailing the activities of the various county departments as well as updates on special projects going on. His latest report states that the Union County Airport is making improvements to their large hanger for their fixed base operator, Fenix Air. They have also moved the fixed base operator offices into the Lovers Lane house. They are working on an FAA grant for upgrading the runway paving and lights.
Code Enforcement issued 34 nuisance violations last month. 29 properties were brought up to code, and five structures were torn down. Outside of the clean up days, they picked up 307 bags of trash and 234 tires.
The Community Development Office reports that Union County Public Transportation provided 194 total trips. All communities involved in the $1.6 million broadband grant attended the pre-construction meeting.
The Union County Development Board reports 25 active industrial projects, including two new projects that were opened in April. They provided two site visits and are optimistic on two proposed projects. Seven properties have been purchased on Main Street in downtown Union for redevelopment to mixed occupancy.
The Public Works Department spent 201 hours in April regrading shoulders and ditches in the county, 112 hours in routine mowing, and 94 hours in drainage maintenance. They also completed 19 work requests for pothole patching.
