Suspect Captured Near Jonesville School

Daniel Prince

JEMS placed on secure protocol for most of the day

Jonesville Elementary-Middle School was placed on secure protocol for most of the day Wednesday. No one was allowed to enter or exit the school. The Union County Sheriff’s Office had their K-9 team tracking a suspect with active warrants in the New Hope Church Road area near the school, and the school was secured as a matter of protocol. The man was found sometime Wednesday afternoon, allowing the school to end the secure protocol and dismiss normally.

In a post to its Facebook page, the school district thanked everyone for their patience and understanding as they focused on keeping the students and staff safe. The sheriff’s office also thanked the public for the helpful information given by the community throughout the day, which led to the suspect being caught. They also thanked the other agencies that assisted deputies in the search. We hope to have more details on this case after we receive the police report on the incident.
