A Swansea man has been arrested in connection with the April death of Stephen Jennings. Jennings was killed in a wreck a mile or so away from Sims Middle School, where he worked as a music teacher. According to Master Trooper Gary Miller with the SC Highway Patrol, a 2009 Freightliner bucket truck, driven by 28-year-old Luke Preston Sheppard, from Swansea, SC, was traveling north on Highway 176 when his vehicle traveled left-of-center and struck Jennings’ 2014 Ford Expedition SUV head-on. Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene. Sheppard was injured and transported to Union Medical Center. SC Highway Patrol investigated the incident, and last Monday, June 13, Sheppard was arrested and charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death. Bond on Sheppard was denied. He is currently being held in the Union County Detention Center.
