18-year-old arrested and charged in the incident

A 17-year-old girl reported being assaulted in the Walmart parking lot. Last Wednesday afternoon, officers from the Union Public Safety Department were dispatched for what appeared to be a domestic violence incident. Upon arriving, officers were informed the incident took place in a vehicle, and everyone involved had left the scene.

An officer met with the victim and her parents at Public Safety Headquarters. The girl said she used to talk to a guy named “Ty”, which was short for Tyrell Wallace, but things between them didn’t work out. She said on Wednesday, she pulled into the Walmart parking lot beside the truck of another boy, and he got into her car. While they were sitting there, she said Wallace pulled beside her car. She told the boy to go to his truck, but when he exited, she said Wallace got into her car. She said he grabbed her by the throat to the point she couldn’t breathe and pushed her toward the driver’s side window of the car, stating she is staying with him forever. She said she kept telling him to get out of her car, but he wouldn’t leave. He grabbed her shirt, eventually ripping it in half. Wallace finally let her go, and a witness came over to the vehicle and tried to get Wallace to leave. She asked him again to leave, as well, and he still refused. She said she smacked him across the face, and he looked away for a second and told her that he loved her. She saw a patrol vehicle enter the parking lot and tried to get the officer’s attention but couldn’t. Wallace exited the vehicle and she drove home.

18-year-old Tyrell Wallace is charged with third-degree burglary for entering the vehicle without permission and second-degree assault and battery for putting his hands around her throat.
