Tennessee Man Facing Multiple Charges After Multi-County High-Speed Chase

Reckless driver leads chase through Union and Spartanburg before crashing near Tryon, NC

Captain Scott Coffer told WBCU News that a Tennessee man will be facing charges in Union County following a car chase that spanned two states and at least 4 counties. Friday night at 9:36 p.m., dispatch notified deputies with the Union County Sheriff’s Office of a reckless driver coming into Union County from Newberry. Deputies intercepted the vehicle on Whitmire Highway near the city limits. The license plate came back expired, and deputies activated their blue lights to initiate a traffic stop. However, the vehicle accelerated, and a pursuit began. Union County deputies requested assistance from Pacolet Police. Once in their jurisdiction, Pacolet took over, and Union County cancelled the pursuit near I-85 in Spartanburg County. Deputies were later advised that the pursuit ended near Tryon, NC, when the suspect crashed his vehicle and was taken into custody. The driver, 26-year-old DeAndrew Hobson, from Clarksville, TN, will face charges in Union County. Once he makes bond in NC, he will be extradited back to SC.
