Threat at Middle School Delays Dismissal

Daniel Prince

Threat at Sims was made via Snapchat

For the second straight day, the Union County School District had to issue an alert involving Sims Middle School. Director of Administration Eric Childers sent out a statement Wednesday afternoon that stated: “This afternoon, we were made aware of a possible threat made using Snapchat. Our release procedures were modified with the help of our sheriff’s office in order to ensure there was no viability to the threat and that all those involved had been accounted for. Thank you to our parents for understanding and supporting the school while we try to keep our students safe.”

Dismissal at the school was delayed, as bus riders were dismissed by bus and by grade level. After the buses were loaded and on their way, then car riders were allowed to leave. Dismissal took nearly an hour longer than normal due to the modified procedures. The threats are being investigated by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
