Girls set to compete in Jekyll Island against the best of the Southeast

A number of young ladies from the Twist and Shout Cheer & Dance Center received a big honor at one of their recent competitions. One of their cheer coaches, Katie Kingsmore, told WBCU News about it:

The groups range from the Mini team, which is ages 5-8, to the youth 1 and 2 teams, which include ages 6-12. The competition is set for April 29, and the team will be staying at Jekyll Island from April 28-30. The trip is an unexpected expense, and to help parents out with the cost, Kingsmore said they have challenged businesses to give $100 to the teams to help with the costs of registration, t-shirts, and travel. She said thanks to many generous donations, the entry fees have nearly all been covered, but further donations will help with the t-shirts and travel. Donations have been received from El Poblano, Wards Tire and Auto, Holcombe Funeral Home, Southern Heritage Woodwork, Midway BBQ, Wingz Sports Pub, Dairio, Copper Creek Café, Phil’s Steakhouse, Snip it Salon and Spa, Itty Bitty, Home Town Delivery Services, Salon Co-Op, All Pro Detail, Heart’s Family Restaurant, Smith Pro Detail, Fresh Seafood on Main, Elle Bell Café, Smith’s Jewelry Store, and several anonymous donors have all contributed so far.

The girls also received a bid to a competition called The One in Orlando, but they had to turn that down this year due to the cost. However, Kingsmore said they will be shooting to be invited back down there next year, and they will make sure to plan to go then.
