Two Arrested for Stealing Woman's Purse in Walmart

Daniel Prince

Men also face county charges of grand larceny

A pair of Union County men were charged with financial transaction card theft and financial transaction card fraud in connection with a stolen purse back on January 31. A 71-year-old Union woman was shopping at Walmart that day, and at some point, her purse was stolen out of her cart. She said she was not sure when it went missing, but she was unable to pay for the items she had selected because of the theft. She said she then got a notification from Woodforest Bank that someone had used her bank card. She provided a bank statement to officers that showed several transactions to Cash App that she did not make. According to the arrest warrants, 27-year-old Devin Jake Fisher and 29-year-old Joseph Neal Stephens both used the woman’s United Healthcare financial transaction card to make purchases at Walmart. The warrants say Fisher made two transactions and Stephens made one. In addition to those charges, they also were arrested in February on county charges of five counts of grand larceny and a third-degree burglary charge. Those charges were filed for incidents that took place at different times in February.
