Union County's Unemployment Rate Falls for Consecutive Months

Union's unemployment rate was 5.2% in January; still highest in the Upstate despite declines

According to the SC Department of Employment and Workforce, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has held steady the last two months, at 3.2%.

Union County’s unemployment rate dropped in February and in March. Union’s unemployment rate fell from 5.2% in January to 5.1% in February. 92 more people entered the labor force in February, and 98 more people were working in February than in January. The decline continued in March, as Union County’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.9%. Another 82 people were added to the labor force, and 96 more people were working. Despite the declines, Union County still has the 8th-highest unemployment rate in the state, and highest in the Upstate.

Union’s unemployment rate is higher than in March 2022, when it stood at 4.5%. In that time, 192 people have been added to the labor force, and 141 more people have jobs.
