National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week was set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California. It was then established by Congress in 1991 to honor public safety telecommunicators and thank them for dedicating their lives to serving the public and making everyone aware of their hard work and dedication.
