Union County Democratic Party Hosting Blue Gala Saturday

Lessie Price will be guest speaker

The Union County Democratic Party will host their Blue Gala this Saturday, April 9, at 5 pm with special keynote speaker, Lessie Price. Price is the current South Carolina Democratic Party 1st Vice Chair. A biography at scafricanamerican.com states that Price grew up on a farm in Barnwell County with nine siblings. She was the first woman elected at-large to the Aiken City Council, a position she has held for 24 years. During her time on council, she worked to create affordable housing for families that led to partnerships that built around 300 affordable homes, and supported job placement, scholarships, and internships for students and families. Price serves as Manager of Government Affairs for URS Corporation, a global provider of engineering, construction, and environmental management and technical services.
Price has served on the Lower Savannah Council of Government-Workforce Development Board, SC Commission on Higher Education Foundation, SC Tourism Board, News 6 Advisory Board, Past President of Aiken County Dollars for Scholars, SC Municipal Incorporation Board, Aiken Junior Invitational Golf Tournament Board, Augusta Chamber Women in Business Board, Environmental Management Advisory Board and Past President of the SC Municipal Association.

Some of her recognition includes Allen University-Richard Allen Award, News 26-26 Women to Watch, Department of Energy Environmental Justice Award, Aiken Chamber Woman of the Year-and Outstanding Leadership Award, Aiken Sunrise Rotary Club Unsung Hero Award, Central Savannah River Council of Girl Scouts Woman of Excellence, USC-Aiken Woman of Distinction.

Tickets to the gala are still available for $40 each, but they are going fast. The gala will feature a catered dinner, a keepsake gift, awards, and music, along with the guest speaker.

Union County Democratic Party Executive Committeewoman Rosemary Rice is the inspiration for the event. She developed the theme and concept and the whole team has rallied to make it happen. Union County Democratic Party Chair Timika M. Wilson, Ann White, Sheshonie Mobley, and Cynthia Smith all worked with Rice to make this event happen. The group hopes to hold an event like this each spring.
