Daniel Prince

Program boasts more than 40 graduates in the last four years

The Union County Development Board is preparing to graduate another class from its Operation Workforce Training. The graduation ceremony and luncheon is scheduled for Friday, April 1, at 11 a.m. at Main Street Junction. The program teaches the students skills needed for a job in the manufacturing sector.

Operation Workforce Training started in 2018 through partnerships with the county, Union County Schools, Spartanburg Community College, and Lockhart Power Company. The goal was to target high school seniors uncertain about their plans after graduation. The 65-hour program works closely with local industry to provide students with basic skills to gain an entry-level position offer. So far, there have been more than 40 graduates, many of whom were hired by local industries in Union County. The program is funded by a grant through the State Technical College System.
