Union Teen Arrested in Connection With January Traffic Accident

Daniel Prince

Butler left the scene of an accident that caused injuries

A Union teen was arrested in connection with a traffic accident that occurred in January. The warrants state that 19-year-old Benjamin Grant Butler was driving down Mabry Avenue on January 9th at a high rate of speed. The warrant notes that a passenger warned him to slow down because of an approaching curve in the road, but Butler ignored the warning and ended up driving off the road into the yard of a residence there, causing the vehicle to collide with the bottom of a ravine. The accident caused severe, disabling damage to the vehicle and injuries to all occupants. He then left the scene and did not attempt to render aid or call for help. When officers responded, they found multiple empty containers of beer in the backseat of the vehicle within reach of Butler when he was driving. Warrants were signed on Butler back in January charging him with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, having open containers in a moving vehicle, and reckless driving. Butler was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Union County Detention Center.
