USC Union Begins Fall Semester Classes

Daniel Prince

Masks required after SC Supreme Court ruling

It’s an exciting time of year at USC Union, as classes for the fall semester began yesterday. Next Wednesday will be the last day to add a course or to drop a course without a grade of “W” being recorded.

Students are reminded that face coverings are required in all campus buildings, per University of South Carolina Interim President Harris Pastides. He made that move after the SC Supreme Court ruled that the budget proviso regarding mask mandates for higher education institutions did not apply to universal mask mandates. It only prevents those schools from using state funds to fund efforts to require only unvaccinated individuals to wear face masks. In light of the ruling, both South Carolina and Clemson immediately instituted mask mandates at their respective schools.
