Dr. Ann Carmichael will be the commencement speaker
USC Union’s commencement is scheduled for this Saturday at 6 p.m. on the grounds of Patron’s Park at USC Union. In case of rain, it will be held in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church. Dr. Ann Carmichael has been announced as the commencement speaker this year.
Dr. Carmichael began her career in higher education administration at age 23. She earned her Masters in Student Personnel Services from Clemson University and her PhD from the University of South Carolina. She is a graduate of the Furman University Riley Leadership Institute, and she has served in various capacities in colleges and universities in South Carolina and Alabama. Her longest role came with USC Salkehatchie in 1991, when she served as Director of the Walterboro campus and as Coordinator of Development. Later, she became Dean of USC Salkehatchie, where she partnered with USC to bring a four-year nursing program to the campus. She was also instrumental in building a state-of-the-art student housing complex, increasing enrollment to record numbers, and raising over $10 million in private gifts and grants. She retired from the university as Dean Emerita in 2020. She is active in her community and in her church. Dr. Carmichael is married to Randy Carmichael, and they are the parents of a daughter, Catherine. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, boating, tennis, and pickleball.
Attendance at commencement is by ticket only. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Saturday. No children under the age of three will be admitted.
