Lutz Foundation grant helps university buy Alaris System combo and wound simulation kit

USC Union received a grant from the Lutz Foundation to help the School of Nursing. Marketing and Development Director Annie Smith submitted the grant on behalf of the nursing program. The money will go to purchase an Alaris System combo that consists of the central core, pump module, and syringe module. These are used for adult, pediatric, and neonatal care in the hospital and healthcare facility. It delivers fluids, medications, or blood and blood products to patients at the correct dosage rate. In addition to the Alaris System, the nursing department will also be able to purchase a Wound Simulation Kit. The kit contains a full set of artificial and realistic wounds for use in first aid training and other types of training, as well. It consists of traumatic cuts and abrasions, different stage ulcers, and other types of wounds.

The USC Union nursing program is offered in partnership with the USC Aiken School of Nursing program. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree can be earned right here in Union. The campus welcomed their first cohort of pre-nursing students in the fall of 2019. After completing their prerequisite general education courses at USC Union, only 16 nursing students are accepted during each admission cycle into the School of Nursing.

In the past, USC Union has received grants from the Lutz Foundation to set up a student food pantry and to purchase a labor and delivery patient simulator.
