USC Upstate Announces Partnership With United Way of the Piedmont

Daniel Prince

Selena Smith to be campus's Community Resource Coordinator

USC Upstate and United Way of the Piedmont are joining forces to help students at the university continue on when they encounter financial hardship. USC Upstate will pilot a new version of the United Way’s Community Resource Coordinator program.

The program began in 2017 and helps businesses and charitable organizations in the Upstate provide individuals and families with not just emergency assistance but with longer-term solutions for stability, such as affordable housing, reliable transportation, professional development, and financial literacy. The Community Resource Coordinator is housed within an organization to serve as a case manager and provide close support to those in need of financial coaching and access to additional resources.

Selena Smith will be the coordinator operating on USC Upstate’s main Spartanburg campus. Through the end of September, her office will be in Enrollment Service at the Health Education Complex, and she will be there Wednesdays from 9-3. In October, she will move to the Campus Life Center, and her office will be in Student Affairs through the end of the semester. The spring semester will be similar, with her office in the Health Education Complex through mid-February and then moving back to the Campus Life Center.
