Utility Phone Scam Making Its Rounds Again

Daniel Prince

Never give out personal financial or electronic account information over the phone

An old scam is still making its rounds across the county. The City of Union said they are still receiving phone calls from customers reporting a suspicious phone call demanding immediate payment for utility services. The city issued a statement saying that they will never contact you by phone to demand an immediate payment for services or to threaten to disconnect your services. They also will not require you to make a payment with a prepaid debit card. As with all scams, do not give out personal financial or electronic account information if someone contacts you demanding payment. If you receive a phone call like that, hang up and report it to law enforcement.
