Veterans Day Ceremony Set for Today

Daniel Prince

Ceremony temporarily moves to Foster Park due to pandemic

Today is Veterans Day, set aside to honor those who have served in America’s armed forces in wartime and in peace. The holiday originated with the armistice that ended World War I, which went into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

The post offices, banks, state and local government offices, and the library will be closed in observance of the holiday. Schools are still in session, though many will hold observances during the day, including some who will be attending today’s Veterans Day ceremony at Foster Park.

The ceremony will get underway at 11 a.m. The parking lot near the lodge will serve as the seating area, so be sure to bring a chair with you when you come. Veterans wishing to march into the ceremony should meet at the American Legion Building on Scenic Drive between 10-10:20 a.m. WBCU will broadcast the ceremony live.
