Special recognition this year will go to recipients of certain badges and ribbons
The Union County Veterans Day Committee announces plans for this year’s Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony. Both events will be back on Main Street this year. It will be held Friday, November 11, starting at 10:30 a.m. Any veteran wishing to march in the parade or otherwise participate in it needs to meet at the front of the courthouse on Main Street between 10 and 10:20 that morning. Music prior to the parade and during the ceremony will be provided by the Sims Singers, Union County High School Chorus, and the Union County High School band.
Highlights of the ceremony will include honoring a Gold Star Mother, a Gold Star Spouse, and Blue Star Families. Special recognition will be given this year to recipients of the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Army Combat Medical Badge, the Army Combat Action Badge, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Coast Guard’s Combat Action Ribbon, and the Air Force/Space Command Combat Action Medal. The parade and ceremony will be livestreamed on our Facebook page this year.
We will have Union County Veterans Affairs Service Officer Cindy Fore and Jantzen Childers, one of the committee’s organizers, on WBCU on Thursday, November 3, to share more about the Veterans Day activities.
