Ceremony will take place at the war memorial downtown
Chapter 644 of the Vietnam Veterans of America will again be hosting the annual Union County Memorial Day observance. The ceremony will take place at the war memorial at the corner of Main and Mountain streets on Monday, May 29, at 10:30 a.m. The program will include prayer, opening remarks, a history of the holiday, the pledge of allegiance and national anthem, presentation of new flags, a salute to the fallen comrades of Chapter 644, an appeal to join the chapter, a time for public comments, a description of the chapter’s missions, and the closing of the service by playing TAPS. You are invited to come out for this solemn remembrance of those who gave their lives for our country.
Another observance will take place at Foster Park at 9 a.m. The public is invited out for the Memorial Day Mile, hosted by Stephanie Kitchens. You are invited to run or walk a mile in remembrance of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Following that, they will have a flag retirement ceremony.
