A woman with family and church ties to Union County was killed in a car wreck last week and her two children were injured. 31-year-old Megan Elizabeth Kirby, of Mountville, SC, a small community in southern Laurens County, died in the accident. According to Master Trooper Brandon Bolt with the SC Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at around 6:57 a.m. on October 27 on Highway 560 in Laurens County.

According to Bolt, the vehicle was traveling west on the highway when it crossed the center of the roadway, overcorrected, traveled off the right side of the road, and overturned, striking a tree. Kirby’s children, a 6-year-old female and an 8-year-old male, were both injured in the wreck. One of the children was transported to the hospital by ambulance, and the other was airlifted to an area hospital.

Kirby’s maternal grandparents, Janice and Robert Kirby, still live in Union. She was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle of God Church. Her funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at Union Memorial Gardens. Visitation is set for tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home.
